 WE MADE IT!!!      (proof below!)

Tisbury >> Lyme Regis  35 amazing friends, off road over 120km, 2,400m vertical climbing, some slightly hairy moments down Hell's Lane (yes, really!) and WE MADE IT!!!

What an utterly awesome 36hrs of the best of friendship, comeraderie, sisterhood, mental guts and family wonder. Thank you thank you thank you.

We couldn't have done it without you all - our wonderful cyclists, friends and family supporting and wider amazing goodwill and love.  Hugo and I are so grateful, thank you.

Including gift aid and direct donations we've raised over £50,000 as a group and I'm utterly floored.  That's over £36,000 to buy an incubator for Cosmic Charity and over £5,000 each to Teddy's Wish and Petal's Charity.

So our darling Minnie, here's to you. A weekend of love and determination because of you, in your memory, our brave little fighter. While you were wrapped in love from the beginning, your life was marked by struggle and tragedy and now we have are lots of very happy memories that extend out from our family to the amazing wider network that has supported us three this weekend. So many are tied to you, to us and all of because of you. You were with us all every step and pedal of the way my poppet. We love you.

On 10th March 2022 Minnie (Delfina) Le Breton was born. Very ill from birth, she spent a valiant 19 days in NICU at St Mary's Paddington and Queen Charlotte's hospitals in London.

During her time in NICU she had dedicated doctors and nurses who worked tirelessly to try to understand why she was so ill and how to support her. While we still do not know why her lungs and heart never worked properly, there was no more effort, love and care that she could have received from NICU medical staff to have given her any better chance of survival.

She tragically left us on 29th March, her body and spirit having fought hard, her health challenges were too great and had gone on too long.

For us there are no words to adequately describe the hole that she has left in our hearts and family, we remember her daily and she will always be Ottilie's beloved younger sister and our daughter.

Day 1:

On Saturday 22nd June, we will meet at Tisbury Station in Wiltshire. Locals will be welcoming those coming from London on the first train at 0930.

We will be cycling through beautiful rolling countryside on bridleways, tracks and lanes from Tisbury to Plush, in Dorset. In total, we will cycle about 55km, and climb about 1000m.

Dinner and Accommodation:
We will be having an early, hearty dinner in the Brace of Pheasants pub in Plush.

We expect that many locals will then head home for the night  However, for our visitors and those that would like a night away, we have booked rooms in two lovely pubs in Plush and Piddletrenthide. If you’d like to stay, please let us know asap – first come, first served!).

Day 2

On Sunday morning, we will make an early start and cycle to Lyme Regis, again through some of the prettiest countryside in England. It’ll be about 60km, with a fair few ups and downs!

We will be cycling to the sea, for a quick dip and a celebration at a great pizzeria right on the seafront.

Bicycles
You will need a gravel bike or mountain bike. If you don’t have access to one, we arrange a rental for you.

Fitness
60km by mountain bike is a decent distance in a day. To make sure that you enjoy the trip, it will be worth some preparation. More will follow regarding suggested training tips, but suffice to say, getting on the bike 3 times a week for the next few months would be a great start! Build up gradually, but aim for a couple of shorter, more intense rides (find some hills to practice on!) and one longer ride each week.

Here are a couple of links that we recommend (and that Chloe will be trying to follow!) that might be helpful -

Our Charities
Cosmic (merged with the Winnicott Foundation)
These two charities provide a myriad of equipment, training and support to both neo-natal and pediatric intensive car units (NICU and PICU) at St Mary's and QCGH. They purchase what the NHS cannot afford, providing vital state of the art equipment, training for health professionals and funding groundbreaking research into life-threatening diseases.
These charities provided the incredible incubator that kept Minnie alive and, as we were unable to hold her between her birth and death, knowing that she was receiving the best support from the incubator as well as the NICU consultants and nurses was a huge comfort to us.

Petals
The death of a child not only impacts individuals but can damage and rupture families. Petals provide free counselling for bereaved parents who have suffered different forms of baby loss and we were lucky to have received counselling following Minnie's death.

Teddy's Wish
Set up by the parents of Teddy Reid, who tragically died in 2014 aged 3 months from SIDS, this charity raises money to fund research into infant death and provides care packages for parents who have suffered baby loss.
